Overview

Camp Ellis Jetty provides anglers with access to the mouth of the Saco River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. The combination of river current, tidal movement, rocky structure, and open ocean water can create productive feeding areas for several of Maine’s popular coastal species.

Striped bass are a major seasonal attraction in southern Maine, while mackerel and bluefish may provide additional opportunities when baitfish move along the coast. Conditions can vary dramatically with tide, wind, and ocean swell.

Fishing Tips

Striped bass anglers can try bucktail jigs, soft plastics, swimming plugs, and other baitfish imitations. Smaller metal jigs and sabiki-style rigs can be useful when mackerel are present, subject to current regulations.

Use extreme caution on the jetty. Wet rocks, waves, strong currents, and changing tides can make exposed sections hazardous.
