Overview

North Pier is located along the historic Portsmouth waterfront, beside the tidal Piscataqua River. The area combines maritime history, harbor activity, and views across one of New Hampshire’s most important tidal waterways.

For anglers, the Piscataqua is particularly interesting because its deep water and strong tidal movement can bring striped bass and other coastal fish close to shore. Fishing access, however, should be limited to portions of the waterfront where casting is specifically permitted.

Fishing Tips

When fishing an authorized nearby location, work lures along current seams, pilings, rocky edges, and other places where moving water meets slower water. Striped bass frequently use these areas to intercept bait.

Tidal current is a major consideration in Portsmouth. Plan around the tide and use enough weight to maintain control of your presentation without snagging bottom structure.
